Sensory Storytime

IMG_4187.jpeg

Stories are an amazing way to support young children's language and communication.

These sessions encourage children explore the world of stories through their different senses to not only support development, but foster a love of reading from a young age.

This is a great opportunity for you to spend  quality time with your child without having to create your own entertaiment.

Groups are friendly and welcoming and are also a fantastic chance to meet other parents and carers.

Groups are split into the following:

  • Birth to pre-walking (around 0-12 months) - a calm and relaxed introduction to reading and stories.

  • Walking and beyond (around 12 months - 4 years) - ideal for siblings to attend together, a more lively group.

Each session last 45 minutes.

Cost is £10 per session

Our sessions are booked in blocks (per half-term), if you would like to join partway through a block, please get in touch using the contact form.

What to expect in a session

Group welcome and story

  • The session begins with a hello song to welcome everyone to the group.

  • We learn helpful Makaton signs for today's session.

  • A story is read - there are sensory elements to support your child to explore the story more fully using touch, smell, sound and sight.

Sensory exploration

  • Space for your little one to explore sensory input at their own pace.

  • There will be sensory stations relating to the story set up for your child to interact with.

  • Focus on an element from the story they really enjoyed or discover something new.

Group wrap up

  • We come back together as a group for a fun sensory experience e.g. the parachute or bubbles.

  • It's time to say goodbye with our song.
